Washington Offers Another Folsom High Quarterback

The Huskies return to familiar recruiting stomping grounds.

It's become a tradition for Washington to recruit quarterbacks from Folsom High School in Northern California. Following Sacramento State University's mega camp on Wednesday afternoon, the next Bulldog behind center added the Huskies to his growing list of offers.

Ryder Lyons, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound sophomore, received offers from UW as well as San Diego State.

Lyons is expected to be Folsom's starter at quarterback this fall after Austin Mack reclassified to the 2023 class back in February in order to join the Huskies this month. As a freshman in 2022, Lyons played in only one varsity game and recorded a rushing touchdown among 24 yards gained, according to his MaxPreps profile.

It's the first quarterback offer for Washington in the 2026 class. Given that Lyons has yet to really showcase his talent shows how highly offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and tight-ends coach Nick Sheridan must view the sophomore.

Lyons now holds an even dozen scholarships, with seven — California, Colorado, Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, UW and Washington State — from the Pac-12 Conference.

BYU, Pittsburgh, Sacramento State, SDSU and UNLV are the other offers to date for Lyons.

If the last name seems familiar, it is. Ryder is the younger brother of USC incoming freshman tight end Walker Lyons, who was a 4-star recruit. Washington offered the older Walker but the Huskies did not factor in his final decision nor did they host him for an official visit.

Lyons will take the field on Friday with former Husky quarterback Jake Browning at the latter's first annual Sac Town 10 Quarterback Invitational held at Folsom High School.

Browning set the high school national record with 229 touchdown passes in his four years at Folsom from 2012-15 before embarking on a productive career at UW.
