As Washington's coaching staff continues to hand out offers to underclassmen all over the country, it appears Utah has become its next stop. The Huskies recently extended an offer to 2026 prospect Kane Akana, who excels on both sides of the ball for Orem High School.

While he's listed as a wide receiver by 247 Sports, it appears some teams are looking at him to play safety at the next level, including Washington. Akana received his offer from co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach Chuck Morrell, as well as defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield.

The rising sophomore looks like he's going to be a big-time prospect based on the offers he's already accrued after just one year of high school football. His eight scholarship offers include Auburn, Utah, and Arizona State along with Washington.

On film, Akana has all the tools of a Division I prospect very early on in his high school career. The majority of his highlights are on the offensive side of the ball, but he has athleticism that can translate to the secondary with ease.

Akana shows off great speed as well as excellent physicality at the catch point and with his 6-2, 170-pound frame, could end up becoming elite traits as he continues to grow and add weight. He also does a very good job tracking the ball in the air and if he does end up playing safety, could end up leading to a lot of interceptions.

The offers that Washington's coaching staff has given out to underclassmen show that it has done its due diligence in the scouting department. Akana is yet another example of the Huskies doing a great job of establishing relationships all over the country early in a player's development.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
