Is Washington Zeroing In On Dermaricus Davis?

Finding a quarterback is never an easy thing to do. However, since Kalen DeBoer and Ryan Grubb arrived on campus, it seems that the pair is incredibly gifted at finding talented signal-callers.

Now that former Washington commit E.J. Caminong has decided to look elsewhere, it appears the coaching staff already has another plan at the position. Three-star Etiwanda High School quarterback Dermaricus Davis is rising quickly and has emerged as a top target for the Huskies.

He's scheduled to visit Washington at the end of June and it appears Washington is in a very good position to secure his services. Davis has also set up official visits to Arizona and Oregon State, while it's being reported that he's also in the process of setting up visits to BYU and Penn State.

Davis has a big, accurate arm and is not afraid to fit the ball into tight windows when asked. He has great eyes and does a very good job of anticipating throws.

Not only does Davis do a great job of anticipating his receivers getting open, there are multiple spots on his tape where he throws them open. As he continues to learn to read defenses, he should be able to complete a high percentage of his passes in a college offense.

At 6-foot-4 and 190-pounds, he's on the lighter side at the moment, but by the time he's ready to start in college he'll be able to take more hits. Since Davis likes to tuck the ball and run at times, and is very good at finding lanes to do so, gaining 10 or 15 extra pounds will help his game tremendously.

Even though Davis is currently unranked by the 247 Sports Composite, it's very likely that he will end up as a high three-star or even a low four-star prospect. His rise seems like it will be very similar to 2023 Oregon State signee Aiden Chiles, who was unranked when the Huskies offered and was ranked as the nation's 58th overall prospect by 247 Sports when he signed.

While Davis' rise probably won't get him to that point, he's going to gain a lot of notoriety before he signs. If the Huskies can earn his commitment, the future at quarterback will be very bright on Montlake, between him and 2023 enrollee Austin Mack.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
