BREAKING: Jose Perez to Return to West Virginia

Huge news for the Mountaineers!

The good news keeps coming for West Virginia basketball as Jose Perez announced late Friday night that he will be exiting the transfer portal and returning to the program.

Perez transferred to WVU from Manhattan after his coach, Steve Masiello, was fired less than two weeks before the start of the 2022-23 season. Unfortunately, he was unable to get a waiver from the NCAA.

Former WVU head coach Bob Huggins fought hard for him to get cleared but for whatever reason the NCAA denied the appeal, forcing Perez to sit out the entire season. Perez could have turned pro this offseason but decided to come back for his last year of eligibility to play for Huggins and make a deep run next March.

After Huggins resigned, Perez entered the portal and gained interest from several programs such as Gonzaga, Michigan, Oregon, and others but opted to return to Morgantown.

Perez averaged 18.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists, earning First Team All-MAAC honors in his last season on the court.
