Rumored WVU Candidate Named Coach of the Year Semifinalist

Some recognition for a coach linked to the WVU job.

Indiana State head coach Josh Schertz was recently named as one of the ten semifinalists for the 2024 Werner Ladder Naismith Men's College Coach of the Year award.

Joining Schertz on the list is Amir Abdur-Rahim (South Florida), Hubert Davis (North Carolina), Dan Hurley (UConn), T.J. Otzelberger (Iowa State), Matt Painter (Purdue), Lamont Paris (South Carolina), Kelvin Sampson (Houston), Kyle Smith (Washington State), and Danny Sprinkle (Utah State).

Schertz is in just his third year as the head man in Terre Haute and has led the Sycamores to a 28-6 record, winning the MVC regular season title. Indiana State fell in the Missouri Valley Conference championship to Drake, 84-80. According to ESPN bracketologist Joe Lunardi, Schertz's squad is in the first four out of the 2024 NCAA Tournament. Come tomorrow, they'll know their fate.

In three years as a head coach, Schertz has an overall record of 62-39 (.614).

Schertz has been linked to the West Virginia job and is expected to be a part of the search process. That said, there are several other candidates who seem higher on WVU's wishlist.
