Scenarios for WVU's Opponent in First Round of Big 12 Tournament

Just like that, the final game of the 2022-23 regular season is here.

At around 8 p.m. EST tonight when the Oklahoma State-Texas Tech game concludes, the matchups for next week's Big 12 Conference tournament will be set. It just so happens that the result of that game will also decide who West Virginia plays in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.

Here's a look at how things will shake out based on today's results.

Scenario 1

West Virginia wins - 7-11

Oklahoma State wins - 8-10

Texas Tech loses 5-13

Result: West Virginia would be the No. 8 seed and face No. 9 Texas Tech. Oklahoma State would clinch the No. 7 seed and face No. 10 Oklahoma.

Scenario 2

West Virginia wins - (7-11)

Oklahoma State loses - (7-11)

Texas Tech wins - (6-12)

Result: West Virginia and Oklahoma State would be tied for 7th, but it would be awarded to WVU. West Virginia would face No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 8 Oklahoma State would face No. 9 Texas Tech.

Scenario 3

West Virginia loses - (6-12)

Oklahoma State wins - (8-10)

Texas Tech loses - (5-13)

Result: Same as scenario 1. West Virginia would be the No. 8 seed and face No. 9 Texas Tech. Oklahoma State would clinch the No. 7 seed and face No. 10 Oklahoma.

Scenario 4

West Virginia loses - (6-12)

Oklahoma State loses - (7-11)

Texas Tech wins - (6-12)

Result: West Virginia and Texas Tech would be tied for 8th, but it would be award to Texas Tech, who would play No. 9 WVU. This would pit No. 7 Oklahoma State against No. 10 Oklahoma.
