Team + Individual Stats vs. Oklahoma State
Head coach Josh Eilert sat courtside with WVU play-by-play caller following the game and discussed the loss to the Cowboys.
Opening Statement
Credit to Oklahoma State - they made the winning plays there at the end and knocked shots down and put us in rotations on the backside and really moved that ball and got good looks, and on the other hand, we just couldn't convert down the stretch.
I'm looking here at the box score, you got three second chance points, you got three fastbreak points as a total of six and then they’re eight and 14. So, you're looking at 22 easy points and when you labor to a score on the road and only get six to they're 22, that’s hard to make up for because we shot it well for the most part 42% from the field to their 40. But the key ingredient to all these things is rebounding, and we lacked there once again - we're minus five.
They got to the line, they got to the line a lot. I mean, they’re 20 for 26 and we only got to line 12 times. The fouls were a little upside down to start both the first half and the second half and they went to the line converted. That's probably another difference maker in this contest.
Free throw discrepancy
That's tough and we pride ourselves on that for the longest time and if you look at our cumulative box score for the season, we're probably attempting more free throws than our opponents but it's probably getting pretty close now. So, kind of one of our niches, and two games in a row, we're upside down.
Final five minutes of offense (1-8 FG)
We got some good looks at the rim and Noah was doing well for us and there's a couple times he made the wrong read and we had some guys open around him and then we just didn't make that play but we were going downhill and we had Kerr, I like Kerr off the ball,, especially when he starts the game shooting the way he did. It's a tough one to lose. That's a tough pill to swallow, considering we battled down stretch, they just made winning plays and here's a couple of difference makers in calls ther down the stretch. If
Center Jesse Edwards return to action
Jesse's going to get you the rebounds and then give you some hard rebounds down there but you got understand, the wrist is a situation with him at the foul line, and so if they sniff that out, and they started hacking them just to sit on the line, it does nobody no good. He has a hard time getting that thing up there. Hopefully, just each and every day he gets more comfortable, and we ease him back into the equation and we still get that production from Pat and we're very well-balanced team as we move forward and get him 100% healthy.
