Birmingham, Des Moines, Orlando, Sacramento, Albany, Columbus, Denver, Greensboro - those are the eight cities that will be hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament this March.

In the latest ESPN Bracketology, Joe Lunardi has West Virginia matching up with No. 8 Iowa in the South Region, playing in Birmingham. If the Mountaineers were to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, they would then head to Louisville.

However, the computers, which have favored WVU all season thanks to a strong non-conference schedule, project a much different landing spot for the Mountaineers in the tournament. The ESPN BPI has WVU as the 25th-best team in the country with a seed rating of 6.8.

Most tournament projections have WVU slated as a No. 9 or 10 seed. I could see them getting a No. 8, because in the grand scheme of things being an eight or nine doesn't really matter. But a six? Yeah, probably not happening. I will say, though, a No. 7 seed is possible. West Virginia is currently 24th in the NCAA's NET Rankings and has six Quad-I wins on its resume. Three of the four teams Lunardi has projected as a No. 7 seed have six or seven Quad-I wins. Texas A&M is more than deserving of a 7 seed and should probably be a No. 6. But as far as Northwestern, Michigan State, and Missouri are concerned, I don't see how the resume bests West Virginia's.
