WVU Basketball: Momentum Gaining for Internal Candidate

Will West Virginia have a new head basketball coach by the end of the day?

Things can change, but it seems as if West Virginia athletic director Wren Baker will go the interim route with the men's basketball head coaching job.

The favorite? Josh Eilert, according to Adam Zagoria of the New York Times

"Eilert has emerged as the favorite to replace Naismith Hall of Famer Bob Huggins, and an announcement could come as soon as Saturday."

This report is consistent with what one source told Mountaineers Now on Friday, "Assigning Eilert or Everhart the interim tag seems most likely at this point. A decision should take place sometime over the weekend."

Eilert does not have any head coaching experience but has been around the WVU program longer than anyone. He joined Huggins' staff at Kansas State and followed him over to Morgantown. He served as the team's video coordinator for six seasons before moving into the role of Assistant Athletics Director for Basketball Operations. Last July, Eilert moved into an assistant coach role, replacing Erik Martin who became the head coach at South Carolina State.
