WVU Reportedly 'Expected to Conduct a National Search' for Next Head Coach

The search for a new head coach is about to begin.

New West Virginia athletic director Wren Baker has had quite the first few months on the job. As if things weren't already chaotic, he'll now have to search for a new men's head basketball coach...in June.

Legendary head coach Bob Huggins was arrested on a DUI charge in Pittsburgh Friday night, leading to his resignation.

So, how will the Mountaineers replace Huggins?

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, West Virginia is "expected to conduct a national search" for its next coach. It is extremely late in the coaching carousel but with the recent portal class WVU reeled in paired with the state of the art facilities and NIL opportunities, they still may be able to land a quality coach and not have to promote from within.

If West Virginia chooses to go outside of the program, Jerrod Calhoun (Youngstown State) and Andy Kennedy (UAB) come to mind as a couple of names that may have some interest.

Ron Everhart is the only assistant coach at WVU with prior head coaching experience at the Division I level. Everhart went 92-104 in seven seasons at McNeese State, 82-68 in five years at Northeastern, and 99-89 in six years at Duquesne.

There's also the possibility Wren Baker and co. go "out of the box" and away from the Bob Huggins tree.
