West Virginia received a verbal commitment from class of 2024 cornerback Romanas Frederique Jr. Saturday afternoon. The six-foot 170-pound defensive back chose the Mountaineers over Akron, Appalachian State, Florida Atlantic, Florida State, Houston, Liberty, Miami, Temple, UCF, Western Kentucky, and a few others.

Evaluation

Frederique's attributes of length, speed and physicality on the outside check the boxes for a solid cover corner as part of the 2024 class but it's his instincts that separate him from most. At times, it appears he knows the receiver's route, making a break on the ball before the wideout even turns his head.

The St. Aquinas product plays both sides of the ball which may give him an edge in the backend. His speed, shiftiness and the ability to set up his blocks make him a threat with the rock in hands, especially in the return game.
