Defensive Helmet Stickers: Week 3

The Mountaineers played an excellent game coming off the loss to Missouri. NC State came into the game at 2-0 and was picked by the experts to win the game but West Virginia won the game by 17 points and played a complete game on offense, defense, and special teams. It was a great team win, but let’s focus on some key defensive performances.

Dante had another big day. He puts a lot of pressure on the offensive line with his size, speed and athleticism. He finished the game with 2 sacks, 2 TFL’s, and 3 solo tackles. After 3 games, Dante is tied for 2nd in the Big 12 in sacks and TFL’s.

Darius is the only Mountaineer to receive a defensive helmet sticker all 3 games this season. His consistent energy and relentless tenacity makes a huge impact on Vic Koenning’s defense. Darius is also tied for 2nd in the Big 12 in sacks and 4th in TFL’s.

Hakeem led the team with nine tackles. Eight of his tackles were solo and he also had a pass deflection. Through three games, he has 17 total tackles, 13 solo tackles, and 4 passes deflected.
