BREAKING: Moore to become Mountaineers' new offensive line coach

According to sources close to DubVNation.com, West Virginia is finalizing a deal to make Matt Moore the Mountaineers’ next offensive line coach.

An offensive mastermind with more than two decades of experience, Moore finished his sixth season on Troy’s coaching staff in 2018 and first as the Trojans’ offensive coordinator. Led by B.J. Smith, who rushed for 1,186 yards and 13 touchdowns, Troy’s rushing attack finished 58th in the country this season with 174 yards per game, better than the likes of LSU, Ohio State and even West Virginia. Likewise, Troy’s offensive line was tied for 56th in the country this season allowing 27 sacks total. Impressively, Troy also converted on 83-percent of its red zone opportunities.

The Trojans finished the 2017 campaign ranked sixth in offensive line efficiency and 12th in fewest sacks allowed. Left tackle Antonio Garcia was selected with the 85th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. He became the highest selected offensive lineman in Sun Belt Conference history. Additionally, four of Moore’s offensive linemen were named to the All-Sun Belt Team following the 2017 season. Troy led the country with just eight sacks allowed during the 2016 season under Moore. He was recognized for his accomplishments as a nominee for the Frank Broyles Award in 2016, which is presented annually to the nation’s top assistant coach.

Prior to Troy, Moore also had successful runs at Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee and Texas Tech. He coached with West Virginia head coach Neal Brown in Lubbock, where they produced one of the best offenses in the country. In 2010, the Red Raiders finished seventh in passing (318.9), 15th in total offense (460.2) and 23rd in scoring (33.1). The following year, the Red Raiders ranked seventh in passing (345.4), 13th in total offense (470.6) and 22nd in scoring (33.8).

Moore’s stints on the collegiate level were preceded by successful runs as a coach at the high school level in Georgia and Alabama. During six seasons as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Hoover High School in Hoover, Alabama, Moore helped lead the Buccaneers to three-consecutive Class 6A titles and a 77-7 record. He began his coaching career at Pickens (Ga.) High School in 1996 and spent two seasons there before moving on to Hoover. Moore served as head coach at North Gwinnett (Ga.) High School before joining the staff at Troy in 2006 for his first go-around with the Trojan.

Chad Scott, who is coming to Morgantown from Louisville, has already been tagged as West Virginia's next offensive coordinator.
