Zach Frazier Wins Mountaineer Maven's Offensive Lineman of the Year Award
At the conclusion of each football season, the staff at Mountaineer Maven recognizes the best players on West Virginia's roster by handing out 11 different awards. The winners of the 5th Annual Mountaineer Maven Awards will be announced throughout the week.
This 5th winner of the Mountaineer Maven Offensive Lineman of the Year Award goes to true freshman, Zach Frazier.
Expectations for Fairmont, WV native Zach Frazier were fairly high upon his arrival to Morgantown. He had received offers from several Power Five schools such as Louisville, Stanford, Virginia Tech, and others but chose to remain home and join the Mountaineers.
Even with the high expectations, no one really expected Frazier to see the field much in 2020, let alone start. Being an offensive lineman is one of the most demanding positions in all of football, which is why you rarely see true freshmen see meaningful playing time up front. Add that in with a crazy offseason derailed by the pandemic and you would think Frazier should be nowhere near game ready, but he most certainly was. He quickly became the most reliable and consistent lineman for West Virginia and even showed his versatility playing both guard and center.
For the Mountaineers to be successful in 2021 and beyond, they will need to continue to build up the offensive line and Frazier is a nice building block for the coaching staff to work around.
