The San Francisco 49ers stormed back from a 24-7 deficit to defeat the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship game and are headed to the Super Bowl to take on the defending champion, Kansas City Chiefs.
Former West Virginia offensive lineman Colton McKivitz is the starting right tackle for the Niners and is hoping to become the 13th Mountaineer to win a Super Bowl.
This list currently consists of LB Chuck Howley (Dallas Cowboys): Super Bowl VI; RB Walt Easley (San Francisco 49ers): Super Bowl XVI; DE Mike Fox (New York Giants): Super Bowl XXV; QB Jeff Hostetler (New York Giants): Super Bowl XXV; DB Alvoid Mays (Washington Redskins): Super Bowl XVI; DB Mike Logan (Pittsburgh Steelers): Super Bowl XL; DE Bruce Irvin (Seattle Seahawks): Super Bowl XLVIII; RB Wendell Smallwood (Philadelphia Eagles): Super Bowl LII; WR Shelton Gibson (Philadelphia Eagles): Super Bowl LII; CB Rasul Douglas (Philadelphia Eagles): Super Bowl LII; LB Najee Goode (Philadelphia Eagles): Super Bowl LII; DB Keith Tandy (Tampa Bay Buccaneers): Super Bowl LV.
Following the game, McKivitz did an on-field postgame interview with NBC Sports' Bay Area affiliate and was asked about his journey from being cut to working his way into a starting role.
"Crazy journey. Life gives you ups and downs. Everyone's got a story and this is just mine. I learned some pretty hard lessons early and now just to be where it is, just trying to be humble with how it goes and taking every day how it comes. What a crazy journey to be a Super Bowl starting tackle. Just keep it going from here."
McKivitz and the Niners will meet the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVIII on February 11th at 6:30 p.m. EST.
