NFL Draft Bible: Ford-Wheaton + Stills 'Answered Many Questions' at Combine

Heading into the pre-draft process, former West Virginia wide receiver Bryce Ford-Wheaton and defensive lineman Dante Stills were projected to be very late day three draft picks or potentially guys that could go undrafted. After a stellar showcase at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, each have improved their draft stock and did so in a big way.

Each year, I reach out to a my guy, Zack Patraw, of the NFL Draft Bible on FanNation/Sports Illustrated to get his take on how the Mountaineers in that year's draft class are viewed.

Here's what he had to say about Ford-Wheaton and Stills:

"When the season is over, and we start talking about the Combine or all-star games for the NFL Draft, it’s about answering questions you have about a prospects game. Do you have the speed/size for the NFL? Do you have the flexibility/athleticism needed?

"Two prospects that answered many questions were Bryce Ford-Wheaton and Dante Stills.

"Ford-Wheaton put up numbers that were near DK Metcalf levels. While Metcalf ran a slightly faster 40 and had better splits, Ford-Wheaton had a much better short shuttle and 3-cone. He’s not at the level that Metcalf was when he came out of college, and still has plenty left to develop in his game. But he did prove that, at his size, he can be a threat to take the top off a defense with his speed and potentially develop into a WR2/3 and play a pivotal role for an NFL team with his overall athleticism.

"When you look at the numbers from the Combine for Stills, and you put on the tape, he’s a bit of a tweener. You don’t want him strictly on the edge, but you also don’t want to line him up inside, eating up blocks consistently. If I’m a defensive coordinator, I’m taking that size/speed combination, and I’ll line him up as a 3i-4 tech and let him pin his ears back and penetrate the backfield. Stills showed the versatility of being able to play up and down the line of scrimmage. Now, his testing numbers prove he has the speed/burst and athleticism to play an important role on an NFL defense."
