WVU's Kevin Dowdell Signs with Angels

West Virginia two-way player Kevin Dowdell has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Angels, making him the fifth Mountaineer to sign a pro contract this summer. He joins P Carlson Reed (Pirates), OF Braden Barry (Blue Jays), Tevin Tucker (Rockies), and OF Landon Wallace, who is also with the Angels.

In two years at West Virginia, Dowdell saw minimal action both on the mound and at the plate. He tossed 11.1 innings in 21 relief appearances, allowing a total of eight runs on 10 hits, and walked 13 batters to just 10 punch outs.
At the dish, Dowdell went 12-for-60 (.200) with three home runs and 15 RBI. Although he has the ability to play on both sides of the ball, I imagine the Angels will limit him to strictly pitching (or hitting) to give him a chance to fully develop.
