Former Badgers QB Announces Transfer To FCS Power
Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Myles Burkett found his landing spot in the transfer portal as he announced his commitment to Albany.
Burkett made the announcement on social media wearing a Great Danes uniform.
Burkett is landing in an enviable spot. The Great Danes have risen as an FCS power the past few seasons and reached the semifinals of the FCS playoffs. Plus, there is also a starting job open.
Albany’s starter, Reese Poffenbarger, announced on the same day that he was transferring to Miami (FL). Poffenbarger led FCS in passing yards and touchdowns in 2023.
Oddly, Poffenbarger moves to Miami after Tyler Van Dyke, who played for Miami last season and threw for more than 2,700 yards, has announced he will transfer to the Badgers for 2024.
Burkett announced his intention to transfer in November at the conclusion of the regular season. The redshirt freshman saw no action in 2023 and played just a handful of snaps in 2022. Meanwhile, Tanner Mordecai and Braedyn Locke took all of the snaps for the Badgers.
With Mordecai out of eligibility, Locke would appear to be headed for a competition with Van Dyke for the starting job next season.
Meanwhile, a scan of Albany’s roster shows three quarterbacks with eligibility remaining in junior Joe Tortello, along with freshmen Jordan Rae and Aedan McDermott.
As of Monday, 11 players have declared their intent to transfer from Wisconsin, including offensive lineman Nolan Rucci (Penn State), offensive lineman Dylan Barrett (Iowa State), defensive end Damian Varner (Cincinnati), linebacker Kaden Johnson, quarterback Myles Burkett (Albany), wide receivers Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell, defensive end Rodas Johnson, and linebackers Jordan Turner and Jordan Mayer.
Ten players have committed to join the Badgers in 2024, including linebackers Jaheim Thomas (Arkansas), Leon Lowery (Syracuse), Jahsian Galvin (Northern Iowa), Sebastian Cheeks (North Carolina) and John Pius (William & Mary), along with running back Tawee Walker (Oklahoma), Tyrell Henry (Michigan State), Jackson McGowan (LSU), quarterback Tyler Van Dyke (Miami FL) and long snapper Cayson Pfeiffer (Cincinnati).
