Badgers Pick Up Commitment From Toledo Transfer
The Wisconsin Badgers bolstered the back line of their defense by landing a commitment from Toledo transfer safety RJ Delancy earlier his week, per 247Sports.com.
While the Badgers have loaded up at linebacker — notably adding a commitment from USC freshman Tackett Smith on Tuesday — Delancy is the first defensive back the Badgers have landed through the transfer portal.
This is Delancy’s third school and he has one year of eligibility left. He started his college career in the Big Ten with the Nebraska Cornhuskers. But he played the last three seasons with the Rockets in the Mid-American Conference. He helped the Rockets win the 2022 MAC title game over Ohio and claim a win over Liberty in the Boca Raton Bowl.
Toledo went 11-3 in 2023 and went back to the MAC title game, losing to Miami (OH). The Rockets lost to Wyoming in the Arizona Bowl.
The former three-star recruit went to Northwestern High School in Miami.
In his final season with the Rockets he finished with 28 total tackles and an interception. The 6-foot, 180-pound safety also picked off a pass.
He played 38 games in three seasons for the Rockets, finishing with 62 tackles and two interceptions. With Nebraska in 2020 he played in two games on special teams.
Delancy told 247Sports that he didn't visit any schools, as previously reported. Schools he said he turned down included Ohio State, LSU, Texas A&M and Florida State.
More than a dozen players have committed to join the Badgers in 2024, including linebackers Jaheim Thomas (Arkansas), Leon Lowery (Syracuse), Jahsian Galvin (Northern Iowa), Sebastian Cheeks (North Carolina), Tackett Smith (USC) and John Pius (William & Mary). The list also includes running back Tawee Walker (Oklahoma), Tyrell Henry (Michigan State), Jackson McGowan (LSU), quarterback Tyler Van Dyke (Miami FL), safety RJ Delancy (Toledo) and long snapper Cayson Pfeiffer (Cincinnati).
Eleven players have declared their intent to transfer from Wisconsin, including offensive lineman Nolan Rucci (Penn State), offensive lineman Dylan Barrett (Iowa State), defensive end Damian Varner (Cincinnati), linebacker Kaden Johnson, quarterback Myles Burkett (Albany), wide receivers Chimere Dike and Skyler Bell, defensive end Rodas Johnson, and linebackers Jordan Turner and Jordan Mayer.
