Eric Metcalf Believes Browns New OC Ken Dorsey Can Turn Deshaun Watson Around

The former Browns All-Pro believes the team's new offensive coordinator can turn Deshaun Watson around.

The Cleveland Browns are coming off an overachieving 2023 season. The team suffered injuries all across the board but managed to reach the playoffs. However, that playoff appearance was short-lived when they got trounced on the road by the AFC South winners, the Houston Texans.

The page has flipped over for the 2024 season, and the Browns are tackling it head-on. On Monday, the Browns announced they had named Ken Dorsey as the new offensive coordinator. A move like this should undoubtedly propel the Browns offense to new heights. Former Browns All-Pro running back and wide receiver Eric Metcalf certainly believes that, especially for their franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson.

On the latest "The Dawg Check" on Bleav, Metcalf said Dorsey could propel Watson and the offense.

“That’s one thing I’m looking forward to is [Ken] Dorsey helping out Deshaun. He’s been a player, he knows what it’s like out there. Sometimes that makes a difference, the voice in the ear hits differently when it comes from someone who has actually done it. I think that would be big for Deshaun or whoever is playing quarterback throughout the course of the season.”

Dorsey spent five seasons with the Buffalo Bills. He was first hired as the quarterbacks coach in 2019, then promoted to the passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021. Dorsey was then promoted in 2022 to the offensive coordinator role, which he served through 2023.

Metcalf believes Dorsey will benefit Watson due to what he's done with Bills' star quarterback Josh Allen. Metcalf said Dorsey helped propel Allen to new heights, which is why he loves the move of Dorsey to Cleveland.

“Ken Dorsey is said to be one of the reasons Josh Allen became Josh Allen. When he first started people were saying, ‘oh, he isn’t worth that pick.’ Ken Dorsey comes and he starts lighting it up and becoming the perennial All-Pro like he has been.”

Dorsey has done a great job everywhere he's gone, and that should be no different with an explosive and more than competent quarterback, Deshaun Watson.
