Phil Simms Breaks Down the Giants Trading for Brian Burns, "This Has the Chance to Change Their Football Team Big Time"

Phil Simms joined Talkin' Ball to discuss what a homrun effort it was for the Giants to land edge rusher Brian Burns.

One of the biggest trades this offseason has been the New York Giants landing perennial edge rusher, Brian Burns, from the Carolina Panthers. Much like in the Christian McCaffrey trade, the Giants did not have to give up a first round pick to land Burns.

Burns is only 25 years old and has already secured 46 sacks in his five year career. He can wreak havoc with Kayvon Thibodeaux, and transform the Giants pass rush into something frightening. Phil Simms joined Talkin' Ball to discuss just how huge the signing is for the Giants.

"Well, what I've seen I've seen them all. I've watched him a lot during the season and when the Giants traded for him. I just want to go throw the bat down, circle the bases, because it's a home run...Once they made the trade, I said, Well, let me just go watch him again just to see what I think. And I went, Oh my gosh, Carolina, you must be loaded just to let the Giants get him. And I understand the money and all that. Pat, good against the run, chases down from behind, always hustling."

Simms is not wrong in stating that its a homrun for the Giants. As stated, they did not have to give up a first-round pick to land one of the best linebackers in the entire NFL. Burns can chase down QBs with the best of them, and he will immediately improve New York's defense.

"I really think he's that good, that instrumental. He's got to change offenses. You got to pay attention to him. And now what? Kayvon Thibodeaux on the other side, who I thought overall came around quite a bit this past year. So this has a chance to change their football team big time."

Simms indicates that Burns and Thibodeaux could be the type of defensive makeup that makes the Giants completely change. Burns secured eight sacks, while Thibodeaux brought in 11.5. This could be a truly scary pass rush.
