Fowles's record-breaking performance helps Lynx move up in playoff race
Sylvia Fowles put up 29 points and 20 rebounds on Tuesday night as the Minnesota Lynx picked up a 76-70 victory over the Seattle Storm.
Fowles's performance was the headliner for Minnesota as it was the 19th game in WNBA history where a player has posted at least 20 points and 20 rebounds.
In addition to being the last player to accomplish that feat on May 23, 2018, Fowles did it for the fourth time in her career, passing Tina Charles for the most all-time. Fowles nearly made more history, finishing one point shy of what would have been the WNBA's first 30-point, 20-rebound game.
Fowles's record-breaking night was accompanied by a strong effort in the first half where she had a double-double by halftime. With Fowles leading the way, the Lynx went into the locker room with a 40-33 advantage.
Seattle would claw into the Lynx's lead in the second half but Minnesota had an answer to keep them at bay. With Fowles dominating in the paint, Napheesa Collier joined her in double figures with 18 points and a clutch 3-pointer that helped put the game away in the fourth quarter.
The win was massive for the Lynx who improved to 14-9 on the season and moved into fourth place in the standings. With Minnesota one game ahead of the Phoenix Mercury for a first-round bye, they'll look to continue their surge against the New York Liberty on Aug. 31.
