Lynx extend Kayla McBride; playoff positioning update

“Kayla has proven to be such an integral part of the Lynx since her arrival in 2021."

The Minnesota Lynx announced Friday that guard Kayla McBride has signed a multi-year extension. The three-time All-Star is second on the team in scoring this season at 13.9 points per game for the sixth-place Lynx.

“Kayla has proven to be such an integral part of the Lynx since her arrival in 2021. Her play this season, coupled with her leadership, has been vital to the Lynx returning to playoff basketball,” Lynx Head Coach Cheryl Reeve said in a team press release.

McBride, a 5-foot-11 guard, joined the Lynx in 2021 after three seasons with the Las Vegas Aces. The 31-year-old was the third overall pick by the San Antonio Stars in the 2014 draft.

Minnesota has one game left in the regular season after falling to the Chicago Sky Friday night. They're currently in sixth place in the WNBA and if that's where they finish they'll face Connecticut in a best-of-three series in the playoffs.

If they finish fifth they'll take on Dallas, and if they somehow slip to seventh they'll play New York or Las Vegas.
