Lynx trade Tiffany Mitchell, pick to Sun for Natisha Hiedeman

Deal shores up point guard position for Minnesota.

The Lynx have acquired guard Natisha Hiedeman in a trade that sent guard Tiffany Mitchell to the Connecticut Sun, the team announced on Wednesday. The trade also includes Minnesota’s second-round pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.

Mitchell, 29, spent just one season with the Lynx, signing with the team ahead of the 2023 season. Mitchell played 33 games, starting 21 of them, for Minnesota last season, averaging 7.3 points, 2.3 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game. For her career, she averages 9.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.9 assists.

Hiedeman, 26, was originally drafted by the Lynx with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2019 draft, but was traded on draft night to Connecticut, where she’s spent the first five years of her career. Hiedeman started all 40 games for the Sun last season, averaging 8.5 points, 2.7 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game. She averages 7.4 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds for her career.

Hiedeman is more of a true point guard and will help fill a void at that position. Mitchell was thrust into heavy point guard minutes last season due to injuries, but her natural position is the 2.

ESPN also reported that the Lynx will re-sign free agent forward Bridget Carleton to a two-year deal. Carleton, 26, averages 4.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists across her five-year career.
