Minnesota Lynx return from Olympic break with 8th straight win to remain WNBA's hottest team
More than a month away from action didn't hamper the momentum the Minnesota Lynx had going into the Olympic break as they dumped the New York Liberty 88-78 Sunday night at Target Center for their eighth straight victory.
The win comes after more than 30 days away from game action as the WNBA paused its season for the Tokyo Olympics.
Minnesota is now 13-3 since losing four straight games to start the season. And the rush of eight straight wins has them sitting in third place in the Western Conference, just two games Las Vegas and Seattle, who are tied at 16-6 overall.
Sylvia Fowles led Minnesota with 20 points and 11 rebounds while fellow Olympian Napheesa Collier finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and five blocks. Kayla McBride had 16 points to go along with four boards and four assists.
The Lynx are fourth overall in the WNBA, which is key come playoff time because the top four teams in the league avoid the single-elimination first round of the postseason.
The second round is also single-elimination and includes the third and fourth seeds participating, while the two teams with the best winning percentage during the regular season get a bye all the way to the best-of-five semifinals.
The Lynx will go for a ninth straight win Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Connecticut.
