2024 Minnesota boys basketball state tournament: Day 2 results

Thursday features the Class A quarterfinals and the AAA and AAAA semifinals.

Day 2 of the Minnesota boys basketball state tournament is taking place at Target Center and Williams Arena. The Class A quarterfinals will be at Target Center while AAA and AAAA semifinals games will be held at Williams Arena. 

The Class A and AA semifinals will be played Friday before all four classes play on Championship Saturday. Follow along throughout the day for updates. 

Games Thursday, March 21

Class A quarterfinals

  • Russell-Tyler-Ruthton (23-8) 46, No. 1 Cherry (29-2) 78
  • No. 5 Nevis vs. No. 4 Mountain Lake Area/Comfrey (27-3, 1 p.m.
  • Heritage Christian Academy (21-7) vs. No. 2 West Central Area (27-3), 3 p.m.
  • Goodhue (18-13) vs. No. 3 Fertile-Beltrami (25-6), 5 p.m.

Top-ranked Cherry got the day started with a blowout win over RTR and it was Gophers commit Isaac Asuma leading the charge with 20 points. Isaiah Asuma scored 26 to lead all scorers, and Noah Sundquist added 16 for the Tigers. Blake and Chase Christianson led RTR with 15 and 11 points, respectively. 

Class AAA semifinals

  • No. 1 Totino-Grace (25-5) 74, No. 5 DeLaSalle (20-9) 67
  • No. 2 Mankato East (26-2) vs. No. 3 Alexandria Area (24-5), 2 p.m. 

Miami-bound Isaiah Johnson-Arigu put on a star performance for the No. 1 seeded Totino-Grace, dropping 28 points on 12-of-20 shooting while grabbing 15 boards.

Class AAAA semifinals

  • No. 1 Wayzata (28-1) vs. No. 5 Cretin-Derham Hall (24-4), 6 p.m. 
  • No. 3 Minnetonka (22-6) vs. Eagan (17-12), 8 p.m. 

Both games will be played at Williams Arena.
