PWHL Minnesota rally falls short in overtime loss to Boston

Hilary Knight scored in OT to lift Boston past Minnesota Saturday.

Hilary Knight spoiled PWHL Minnesota’s rally by scoring with 52 seconds remaining in overtime to lift Boston to a 4-3 victory Saturday in Lowell, Mass.

The loss was Minnesota's second straight. 

Kendall Coyne Schofield scored with 53 seconds remaining in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 as Minnesota rallied from two separate two-goal deficits. 

Kaleigh Fratkin and Taylor Girard scored 30 seconds apart in the first period as Boston took an early 2-0 lead. While Brittyn Fleming scored just over seven minutes after Girard’s goal to put Minnesota within one goal, Alina Muller scored 1 minute, 20 seconds later to give Boston a 3-1 lead.

Former Gophers standout Grace Zumwinkle, who also assisted on Coyne Schofield’s goal, scored in the final minute of the second period to put Minnesota within a goal.

In the battle of former Minnesota Duluth standout goaltenders, Maddie Rooney had 11 saves on 15 shots for Minnesota. Emma Soderberg stopped 16 of 19 for Boston. 

Minnesota returns to action on Sunday for its season finale against New York at Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Conn. Puck drop is set for noon.
