Timberwolves bring Ricky Rubio back to Minnesota
Ricky Rubio is coming back to where his NBA career started. According to multiple reports, the Wolves are trading for Rubio and also acquiring the 25th and 28th picks in the draft for the 17th overall selection.
The Timberwolves used the 25th overall pick later in the night to help acquire Argentina guard Leandro Bolmaro per Stadiums Shams Charania.
The trade, which was first reported by The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski and confirmed by the Star Tribune's Chris Hine, will bring Rubio back to Minnesota, where he spent the first six seasons of his NBA career.
During that time, Rubio became one of the faces of the franchise, averaging 10.3 points per game and 8.5 assists per game for the Wolves. Rubio was traded to Utah prior to the 2017-18 season, however, and spent three seasons with the Jazz before being traded to Phoenix last season.
Rubio has been sent around the league this offseason as the Suns traded Rubio earlier this week in a deal that sent Chris Paul to Phoenix.
With Rubio in the fold, the Wolves have a veteran point guard to play along with or behind D'Angelo Russell. Rubio will also be joined by Anthony Edwards, who the Timberwolves selected with the first overall pick in the draft on Wednesday night.
