Report: Timberwolves sign Vanderbilt, McLaughlin to 3-year deals
The Minnesota Timberwolves have reportedly reached new contracts with a pair of restricted free agents, signing Jarred Vanderbilt and Jordan McLaughlin to three-year deals.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Vanderbilt's deal is worth $13.8 million and KSTP's Darren Wolfson added that it carries a partial guarantee with performance triggers for the third season.
Vanderbilt had a breakout season for the Timberwolves last year, averaging 5.4 points and 5.8 rebounds in 64 games. The Kentucky product enjoyed his first healthy season since high school and figures to battle for the starting power forward position during training camp.
Wolfson reports that McLaughlin's deal will be worth $6.48 million with a team option in the final season. The 25-year-old played in 51 games last season, averaging 5.0 points and 3.8 assists per game but had even better numbers (7.6 ppg, 4.2 apg) during the 2019-20 season.
With the addition of Patrick Beverly, McLaughlin's role on the team appears to be unclear. But with training camp beginning on Sept. 28, it appears the Wolves have part of their young nucleus locked in for the next three years.
