Report: Wolves looking to trade for 2nd lottery pick in NBA Draft
Eight days ahead of the Nov. 18 NBA Draft and the rumors are starting to fly, with a report Wednesday from The Ringer's Kevin O'Conner suggesting that the Timberwolves are interested in adding a second lottery pick.
Minnesota already owns the No. 1 pick in the draft, and O'Conner says Minnesota has had talks with the Atlanta Hawks about acquiring the No. 6 pick. He said a "possible deal could include Jarrett Culver and #17" for the sixth overall selection.
Culver was the sixth overall pick in last year's NBA Draft and he averaged 9.2 points and 3.4 rebounds while shooting 40.4% from the field (29.9% from 3-point range) in 63 games as a rookie.
O'Conner added that Florida State forward Patrick Williams and Iowa State guard Tyrese Haliburton could be targets for the Wolves if they were to get the No. 6 pick.
According to KSTP's Darren Wolfson, the Wolves have "done a lot of work" on Haliburton, Dayton forward Obi Toppin, Auburn forward Isaac Okoro and Alabama point guard Kira Lewis Jr.
With the top pick, the Wolves are most likely to go one of four ways:
- Draft point guard LaMelo Ball
- Draft guard Anthony Edwards
- Draft center James Wiseman
- Trade the pick
If the Wolves don't trade any picks before the draft, they'll remain slated to pick 1st, 17th and 33rd.
