Timberwolves select Anthony Edwards with 1st overall pick in 2020 NBA Draft
The Minnesota Timberwolves kicked off what is expected to be a busy night by selecting Anthony Edwards with the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
However, it's not a given that Edwards will stay on the Timberwolves. B/R's Jonathan Wasserman mentioned that the Timberwolves were operating "as if they didn't want to pick at No. 1" and could be drafting for another team. However, there was no deal struck on Wednesday night.
In Edwards, the Timberwolves get an explosive guard with elite scoring ability, averaging 19.1 points per game for the Bulldogs last season. While he has questions about his defensive ability and motivation, Edwards could play next to D'Angelo Russell to form a strong backcourt next season.
The Timberwolves were also busy on the trade front as they acquired Ricky Rubio from the Oklahoma City Thunder for the 17th overall pick in the draft.
In that trade, the Timberwolves acquired the 25th pick in the draft which was paired with the 33rd overall selection to acquire Argentinian guard Leandro Bolmaro from the New York Knicks per Stadium's Shams Charania.
With their final pick of the first round, the Timberwolves selected Washington forward Jaden McDaniels at 28th overall. As a 6-foot-10 player with a versatile skill set that should translate on the defensive end.
