Arráez's triple gives Twins rare extra-inning victory
Luis Arráez hit a 10th inning triple as the Minnesota Twins took the opener of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers 7-5 on Friday night.
The Twins got off to a fast start, loading the bases against Texas starter Mike Foltynewicz in the first inning. The Twins cashed in for three runs including an RBI single from Nelson Cruz to take an early lead.
Although José Berríos was backed with a 3-0 advantage, the Rangers hit the righty in the bottom of the first with RBI singled from Nick Solak and Willie Calhoun to cut it to a 3-2 game.
The Rangers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Jose Trevino but the Twins took the lead back in the top of the fifth with a 429-foot bomb from Trevor Larnach.
Larnach's fourth home run of the season gave Berríos a chance to get the win as he settled down to allow three runs over six innings before turning it over to the bullpen.
Jorge Alcala continued the rough season for the bullpen, however, allowing a solo home run to Adolis Garcia to tie the game at 4-4.
The game went into extra innings where Luis Arráez delivered a leadoff triple in the 10th to score Willians Astudillo.
Josh Sborz and Demarcus Evans struggled with their control, issuing five walks which helped the Twins take a 7-4 lead. Tyler Duffey allowed an RBI single from Joey Gallo to cut into the lead but ultimately closed the door to help the Twins take the opener.
The Twins (28-41) will send Randy Dobnak to the mound against Kolby Allard as the Twins look to take the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon.
