Colomé nightmare continues as Twins blow another lead
Alexander Colomé served up a walk-off home run to Jordan Luplow on the first pitch of the 10th inning as the Minnesota Twins lost to the Cleveland Indians 5-3 on Monday evening.
In a battle between two light-hitting teams, the Twins struck first. Brent Rooker hit his first home run of the season off Zach Plesac in the third inning and Jorge Polanco added a sacrifice fly in the fourth to give José Berríos an early 2-0 lead.
Berríos had a solid outing but ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. Eddie Rosario put the Indians on the board with an RBI double and Franmil Reyes delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2.
The rally sent Twins manager Rocco Baldelli to the mound but since pitching coach Wes Johnson made a mound visit earlier in the inning, Berríos was forced to leave the game.
While the Indians were able to get to Berríos, Hansel Robles was able to get out of the inning. This allowed the Twins to take the lead in the top of the eighth with an RBI single from Luis Arraez.
The Twins turned to Tyler Duffey to preserve the lead in the bottom half of the eighth but José Ramírez hit a solo home run to tie the game and eventually send it to extra innings.
After the Twins went down 1-2-3 in the top half of the 10th, Colomé's short outing handed Minnesota its 12th loss in the past 14 games.
The Twins (7-14) will look to even their series with the Indians on Tuesday evening.
