Josh Donaldson wears 'Row the Boat' shirt while discussing retirement

Donaldson played for the Twins in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Former Minnesota Twin Josh Donaldson announced his retirement on Monday, and he was wearing a shirt that should be familiar to Minnesota sports fans.

Discussing his retirement on “The Mayor’s Office” podcast, Donaldson was wearing a shirt that said “Row the Boat,” the mantra of Gophers football coach P.J. Fleck.

Donaldson’s Major League Baseball career stretched 13 seasons, including two with the Twins in 2020 and 2021. Donaldson, 38, won an American League MVP title in 2015 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

In his two years in Minnesota, Donaldson slashed .244/.35/.474, all below his career averages. He hit 32 home runs and drove in 83 RBIs in 163 games in a Twins uniform.

Minnesota traded Donaldson to the Yankees in March of 2022 as part of a five-player trade that saw the Twins get Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela in return.
