Another stunning outing from Sonny Gray saw the Minnesota Twins take a 6-1 win in the opening game of their home series against the New York Yankees.

Gray kept the Yankees bats silent across seven innings of work, striking out eight and giving up only three hits and two walks as the Twins moved to 13-10.

It improves Gray's record to 3-0 in his five starts so far this season, leading the Twins with a 0.63 ERA.

His opponent on the mound was Jhony Brito, who gave up nine runs to the Twins in the first inning when the teams met at Yankee Stadium.

Brito didn't get shellacked as hard this time out, but he still struggled, giving up three runs before he was pulled after only 2.2 innings.

For the Twins, Jorge Polanco continued his strong start since returning from injury, driving in three runs on two hits; Max Kepler had three hits and three runs batting leadoff, and Joey Gallo picked up his sixth homer of the season.

There were a few jitters after Gray was pulled, with relievers Griffin Jax and Jovani Moran both loading the bases in the 8th and 9th innings, but the Yankees were only able to score on run off Moran.

The two sides meet again at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, with the Twins' Joe Ryan going against Nestor Cortes Jr. for the Yankees.
