Twins' Sonny Gray leaves with apparent hamstring injury
Sonny Gray left in the second inning of his start against the Red Sox on Saturday, having appeared to have tweaked his hamstring.
The veteran right-hander, who the Twins acquired in a trade with the Reds during spring training, happened in the second inning on a pitch that Bobby Dalbec popped out on.
Gray is the latest to be bit by the injury bug. On Friday, Byron Buxton left the game in the first inning with right knee soreness, and earlier this week the Twins placed outfielder Alex Kirilloff on the 10-day injured list with a wrist issue.
Gray is supposed to be one of the top starting pitchers on the team this season. If he misses extended time, the Twins still have five capable starters since they were running with six to start the season, including Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober, Dylan Bundy and Chris Paddack.
Gray had given up a two-run homer to Alex Verdugo earlier in the game. The Twins railed the Red Sox 4-0 at the time this story was published.
