If Kirk Cousins doesn't return to the Minnesota Vikings, the Atlanta Falcons will continue to be considered a possible future home for the veteran quarterback.

There were reports that suggested Cousins and Bill Belichick could land in Atlanta, but  with the Falcons choosing Raheem Morris as head coach that steam quickly cooled. Now there's a new Cousins connection that makes him signing with Atlanta make a lot of sense.

On Saturday, the Falcons reportedly hired Rams pass-game coordinator Zac Robinson as their new offensive coordinator. Why is Robinson key? Well, he's part of the Sean McVay tree that current Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell is from. In fact, he succeeded O'Connell in L.A. when the Vikings hired O'Connell in 2022.

If Robinson's offensive style is similar to McVay, then it'll also be similar to O'Connell's scheme, which Cousins has thrived in the past two seasons.

Matthew Coller wrote about the Cousins-to-Atlanta post-Belichick possibility in his Friday mailbag at Purple Insider.

The Falcons are definitely a win-now team with the way they have built their roster through the draft over the last few years. That fact doesn’t change with Morris in charge. The thing to watch might be who Morris hires as his offensive coordinator. If he brings in Zac Robinson, the QB coach from the Rams, that would mean carrying over the same offense that KOC is using with a guy who was a former NFL QB. Could be advantageous for Atlanta selling Kirk if they want him.

In 25 games running O'Connell's offense Cousins has 6,878 passing yards with 47 touchdowns and 19 interceptions. He was lighting up the league in Year 2 under O'Connell before he ruptured his Achilles in Week 8 this season.

And no one can ignore the fact that Cousins's wife Julie is from the Atlanta area and the two were married in Atlanta 10 years ago.

Cousins will officially become a free agent if he doesn't re-sign with Minnesota before March 13.
