Report: 'Don't be surprised' if Russell Wilson is 'intrigued' by Vikings

"Don't be surprised if Wilson, should he become a free agent, is intrigued by Minnesota."

The 2023 season isn't even officially over yet but the QB rumors and speculation are already in full force. With the Vikings' situation at quarterback in flux, they are already being linked with all sorts of scenarios, including bringing in a former Super Bowl-winning QB.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler linked the Vikings as a potential destination for Broncos QB Russell Wilson.

Wilson appears headed on his way out of Denver after a contentious season with Sean Payton. With a plethora of weapons and a hole at quarterback, the Vikings are seen by some in league circles as an ideal landing spot for a veteran quarterback.

"Don't be surprised if Wilson, should he become a free agent, is intrigued by Minnesota, assuming Kirk Cousins doesn't re-sign with the Vikings (a big question)," wrote Fowler. "Kevin O'Connell comes from the Sean McVay passing tree that maximizes quarterback efficiency. Wilson would have plenty of weapons in a group that includes Justin Jefferson, T.J. Hockenson and Jordan Addison."

Wilson threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and just eight interceptions in 15 games for Denver this season. Despite the yards taking a dip it was a noticeable improvement over his first season with the Broncos when he completed just 60% of his passes en route to a 4-11 record as the starter in 2022.

The idea gets really juicy when you consider the possibility of Wilson accepting less money to play for a new team in 2024. While the Broncos would be eating massive dead cap hits in 2024 and 2025 by releasing Wilson, his new team could start fresh with a more digestible contract.

Minnesota rolls into the 2024 offseason with just $25.8 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap. Clearly, the only viable way he ends up in Minnesota is if the Broncos cut him and he agrees to a cheaper deal.

Buckle in because free agency doesn't start for another 57 days while the draft is still over four months away.
