Vikings passing attack comes alive in win over Giants
Kirk Cousins and the Vikings offense finally woke up with in an impressive 28-10 win over the New York Giants.
Cousins finished the day with 22 completions and 306 yards – all season highs – including two passing touchdowns in the victory.
Minnesota's offense carved up the Giants defense for 351 yards of offense in the first half alone.
On the Vikings' opening drive, Cousins and the offense marched down 62 yards from their own 25 but settled for a field goal from Dan Bailey.
After Minnesota's defense forced a punt, the Vikings came through with a 98-yard drive that ended with Cousins hitting Adam Thielen for a 15-yard touchdown and Minnesota took a 10-0 lead.
Cousins continued to go Thielen's way, hitting the wide out for six grabs on 121 yards in the first half alone.
New York answered back with Daniel Jones dropping a 35-yard dime to Darius Slayton for a score of their own.
However, as the Vikings were about to find the end zone again, Dalvin Cook fumbled at the Giants one-yard line. Luckily, the defense made up for it on the very next play securing a safety.
With the Vikings getting the ball back, they once again found themselves in New York's territory but settled for another field goal. Bailey drilled all three of his field goal attempts, hitting from 31, 48 and 32 yards helping the Vikings to an 18-7 halftime lead.
Cook was a beast securing 133 total yards in the first half and Cousins' 278 yards passing in the first half were more total passing yards than he had in any of the previous four games.
The Giants opened the second half by settling for a 32-yard field goal, chewing up 7:25 of clock.
Despite the long drive, the Vikings offense was still firing on all cylinders with Cook burning off a 44 yard run and Cousins finding Thielen for another touchdown giving Minnesota a 25-10 lead.
Cook followed up his impressive first half by finishing the day with 218 all-purpose yards.
Bailey hit one more field goal in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter securing the victory.
The Vikings defense was just as dominant with Danielle Hunter and Everson Griffen leading the charge with eight tackles and three sacks between the two monster defensive ends.
By game's end, the Vikings offense finished with 490 total yards with the defense allowing only 211.
With the win the Vikings improve to 3-2 on the season and return home to U.S. Bank Stadium next Sunday for a big-time matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles.
