Vikings trade back, select Christian Darrisaw in NFL Draft
The Minnesota Vikings selected Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw with the 23rd overall pick in the NFL Draft on Thursday night.
Darrisaw is a 6-foot-4, 322-pound offensive lineman that is one of the more athletic prospects in the class. Darrisaw's play took a big jump from 2019 to 2020 and didn't give up a sack for the Hokies last season.
While Darrisaw should slot into the starting lineup at left tackle next season, the pick does not come without controversy.
Earlier in the night, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields slipped down the draft board and was scooped up after the Chicago Bears traded up to the 11th overall pick in the draft.
With Rashawn Slater going to the Los Angeles Chargers with the 13th overall pick, the Vikings traded out of the 14th overall selection, receiving the 66th and 86th overall picks to trade down to pick No. 23. The Vikings gave the Jets the 143rd overall selection in the trade.
The Vikings do not have a second round pick in the draft but now have four selections on the second day of the draft.
A number of mock drafts had the Vikings taking Darrisaw at Pick 14, so for the Vikings, being able to pick him up at 23 while adding a couple more 3rd round picks represents somewhat of a coup.
