The college football community is grateful to learn that Utah State wide receiver Josh Davis is recovering and in fair condition after a sudden medical emergency.

Davis suffered a "non-traumatic sudden cardiac arrest" during Utah State's football practice on Thursday, the school announced.

The redshirt freshman collapsed during the team's practice at Maverik Stadium and was treated on the field by Utah State's medical training staff.

From there, Davis was transported to the Logan Regional Hospital near campus.

Later, he was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah, where he received therapeutic hypothermia treatment to lower his body temperature and maintain his neurological functions.

Doctors initially listed Davis as being in critical condition, but his condition improved to the point where he was taken off life support and is breathing on his own.

Davis' parents arrived in Utah on Thursday evening and met with Utah State team physician Dr. David Liddle and Aggies head football coach Blake Anderson.

Davis is "awake, alert, and breathing on his own," Anderson said, via Utah State football play-by-play radio voice Scott Garrard.

He added, "The training staff absolutely saved his life. No hesitation at all. Miracle."
