Coastal Carolina quarterback Dontrell Jackson is suspended indefinitely from the Chanticleers' football team until further notice.

The school announced that Jackson will not be allowed to take part in any football activities.

That decision comes after Jackson was arrested on gun and drug charges this month.

"Coastal Carolina University student Dontrell Jackson has been suspended indefinitely from all football-related activities," the school said in a statement.

The school added, "All student conduct cases are handled through CCU's student conduct process. Due to the FERPA federal law, CCU is unable to provide further comment."

Jackson was charged with simple possession of marijuana, carrying for displaying firearms in public buildings or adjacent areas, and sale or delivery of pistol to, and possession by, certain persons unlawful, according to media reports.

Jackson was released on a $5,115 bond on March 24.

He is the second Coastal Carolina quarterback to be suspended from football activities, joining senior quarterback Bryce Carpenter.

Carpenter was also suspended from the team after he was arrested on charges of third-degree assault and battery.

Last season, Jackson served as the backup quarterback to starter Grayson McCall as Coastal Carolina went 9-4 overall and 6-2 against Sun Belt competition.
