Notre Dame welcomed a surprise guest to its spring football practice recently: former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron was in South Bend to see the Irish scrimmage. While there, Orgeron made one statement that should have Notre Dame fans very happy.

This team, as constructed right now? Coach O says it can go all the way.

"What a tremendous, tremendous university you have here," Orgeron said.

"What a great coach and coaching staff you have. Some of the best players in the country are right here in this room. I don't know when it's going to happen, but with this staff and this team, you're gonna win it all.

"When it's gonna happen? I don't know. I can't tell you that. How bad do you want it? You don't have to wait for it. Why does somebody need to be better than y'all? I'll tell you what, physicality, use it. Other teams fear it. Use it.

"I am fired up. I can't wait to see you guys play. I'm gonna be pulling for you guys. Remember this. It's your team. It's your brother. You fight for him."

Orgeron coached at LSU for six years, including the 2019 campaign in which the Tigers went 15-0 and won the College Football Playoff national championship. He left the school after the 2021 season and was replaced by Brian Kelly, who left Notre Dame suddenly this offseason for the LSU position.
