Colorado defensive back Shilo Sanders is not expected to play in Saturday's game against No. 8 USC after he visited the emergency room following a scary injury he sustained last week, according to ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel.

Sanders said after last week's game against Oregon that he was urinating blood after falling awkwardly on his kidney while making a tackle. Head coach Deion Sanders, Shilo's father, said that the player's condition was improving this week.

"He's doing better," Deion Sanders said of his son. "We went to the hospital right after we landed. He's doing much better. We're praying that he heals and he's playing this weekend. He's a valuable part of our secondary and our team defensively."

Deion added: "He's one of the voices on the defense and he plays with a certain physicality that we desire and we want and he's given me daily updates, trust me, and I'm praying that he can play, as a father as well as a coach."

Sanders is second on the team with 26 stops and scored an interception returned for a touchdown. His absence could be costly for a Buffaloes secondary that ranks No. 111 nationally.

Colorado is still without star cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, who is projected to miss two more games as he deals with an injury sustained two weeks ago.

Colorado struggled to defend adequately against the pass last weekend as Oregon finished with 282 yards in the air while averaging 8.1 yards per pass, and this Saturday goes up against the nation's No. 1 scoring offense, led by quarterback Caleb Williams, who is posting nearly a dozen yards per attempt and 300 yards per game.

Colorado opened as a 21.5 point underdog to USC.
