Texas A&M wide receiver Demond Demas arrested on assault charge: report

Texas A&M wide receiver Demond Demas was arrested by police in connection with an assault family violence charge after an alleged incident this week, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The former five-star recruit played in 14 games over the past two seasons for the Aggies.

Demas reportedly knocked out multiple teeth of his victim. The incident led Jimbo Fisher to shut down the athletics department temporarily on Tuesday as police searched for his player.

According to 247Sports, Demas is also no longer with the program.

“Demond Demas has been suspended by the University. Athletics is following all University protocols and procedures and he is not with our football program,” a Texas A&M spokesman told 247Sports.

According to a probable cause statement obtained by the Houston Chronicle from the Brazos County Sheriff, the alleged victim — who was Demas' girlfriend — "reported that the defendant pushed her head into the wall. Then she bit him on the shoulder. [She] reported that the defendant then grabbed her and threw her from off of the bed onto the floor, which caused her top front teeth to go through her bottom lip.

Demond Demas' arrest comes a few days before Texas A&M is set to open its 2022 spring football practice. A&M will kick off practice on March 7 and plays its annual spring game on April 9.

If charged, Demas could face jail time.

Demas saw his first major action with Texas A&M last season. He had 15 catches for 235 yards and a touchdown.
