Bobby Witt Jr. Stands Alone in Kansas City Royals History After Big Performance on Friday
Kansas City Royals superstar Bobby Witt Jr. became the first player in team history to record a 30/30 season on Friday night as part of a 12-5 victory over the New York Yankees.
Witt Jr. went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk, two runs scored and three RBI in the win, which moved Kansas City to 55-105.
It's one of the best moments in a lost season for the Royals, who have the second-worst record in baseball.
One of the best young players in all of baseball, Witt Jr. is hitting .275 this season with the 30 homers, 96 RBI and 49 stolen bases.
With two games left in the regular season, Witt Jr. will have an opportunity to reach both the 100-RBI and the 50-stolen base marks.
He's delivered an OPS of .810 this season for Kansas City while hitting in the top third of the order.
If the Royals are going to turn things around next season and beyond, Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez will be the focal points of the roster.
Witt Jr.'s home run came in the seventh inning for Kansas City, when they scored two runs. They pummeled Yankees' starter Carlos Rodon, getting him for eight earned runs in 0.0 innings.
The Royals and Yankees will play again on Saturday night. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is set for 7:10 p.m. ET as Yankees' right-hander Clarke Schmidt goes up against Royals' righty Steven Cruz.
Schmidt is 9-9 this season with a 4.65 ERA while Cruz is 0-0 with a 5.40.
