All Kinds of History Happened in Chicago Cubs Blowout Win Over Reds

The Chicago Cubs blew out the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday, achieving multiple instances of baseball and team history in the process.

The Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night by a lopsided score of 20-9. 

The win moved the Cubs to 5.0 games back of Cincinnati in the National League Central and they are 3.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the National League. 

For a team that was thought to be sellers at the trade deadline, the Cubs ended up buying, acquiring slugger Jeimer Candelario in a deal with the Washington Nationals.

Candelario was part of multiple historic occurrences in the win.

Per Jesse Rogers of ESPN:

Per @ESPNStatsInfo: Jeimer Candelario is the first Cubs player since 1900 to have 4 hits in his season debut with the team after playing for a different organization earlier in the season.

Candelario went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in the victory. The 29-year-old is hitting .265 this season with 16 homers and 53 RBI.

Lifetime, he's a .244 hitter with 82 hitters. He's played for the Tigers, Nationals and Cubs previously.

As for some team history that was made in the win, per ESPN Stats & Info:

The Cubs hit 7 home runs against the Reds, tied for their most in a game in franchise history. They scored 20 runs in a game for the 2nd time in the last 20 years (had 21 runs in a game vs the Pirates last season).

The Cubs got two home runs from Dansby Swanson, and single homers from Cody Bellinger, Mike Tauchman, Nico Hoerner, Patrick Wisdom and Miguel Amaya.

The Cubs and Reds will play again on Wednesday night. First pitch is 8:05 p.m. ET.
