In case you didn't know it, the Chicago Cubs are one of the oldest franchises in major league baseball. Therefore, any time you make history for the Cubs, that's a very impressive feat.

That's exactly what infielder Christopher Morel has done since being recalled to the majors earlier this month.

The team's official Twitter account put the information out on Sunday:

Christopher Morel is the first Cub in franchise history (since 1901) to record eight home runs in the first 11 games of a season!

The Cubs lost to the Phillies, 2-1, but Morel's home run came in the ninth inning off of former Cub Craig Kimbrel. Morel was 1-4 on the day.

Thus far, in 11 games and 46 at-bats, Morel has the eight home runs, 14 RBIs and one stolen bases.

After playing in 113 games last year for the Cubs, Morel started the year at Triple-A. He hit 16 homers a season ago and hit .235.

Sarah Langs, a researcher for MLB.com, further emphasized what Morel is doing:

most HR in player’s 1st 11 games of season, since 1900:

2001 Luis Gonzalez: 9

1976 Mike Schmidt: 9

2023 Christopher Morel: 8

2019 Aristides Aquino: 8

After the loss, the Cubs are now 20-26 on the season and in third place in the NL Central. They trail the Pirates by 4.5 games and the Brewers by 5.0.

The Cubs will be off on Monday before returning home on Tuesday to host the New York Mets. First pitch of that game will be at 7:40 p.m. ET.
