The Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics on Sunday, 8-7, to salvage game three of a three-game set.

It was a disappointing series for the Sox, who had a chance to pick up ground in the American League Central race by playing the worst team in baseball, but it just didn't happen.

The Sox win on Sunday was fueled by a five-run third inning that was one of the more unique innings you'll see. In fact, the Sox did something baseball hasn't seen for more than 15 years in that inning.

Per ESPN Stats & Info:

The White Sox's scored 5 runs in the 3rd inning with 0 XBH, 3 infield hits, and an HBP. It’s the first time a team has scored 5+ runs in an inning with 0 XBH, 3+ infield hits, and an HBP since May 12, 2007. When the Red Sox did so against the Orioles at Fenway.

This year has been very frustrating for the Southsiders, so whatever works for you, I guess!

Three different players had multi-hit games for the Sox, including Jake Burger, who hit his 18th home run of the season.

With the win, the Sox are now 37-49 and 5.5 games back in the American League Central. The mediocrity of the division should keep them in the race, but it will be interesting if the Sox decide to sell at the trade deadline.

The White Sox are off on Monday but will return home for a July 4 showdown with the Blue Jays. First pitch on Tuesday is 8:10 p.m. ET.
