Massive Offensive Output Helps AL Central Makes History on Tuesday Night

The Guardians, White Sox, Twins, Tigers and Royals all scored 10-plus runs on the same day, becoming the first division in 23 years to achieve the feat.

All five teams in the American League Central scored 10-plus runs Tuesday night, accomplishing a feat that had only previously occurred once in MLB history.

It marked the second time in the Divisional Era – which dates back to 1969 – that every team in a division scored double-digit runs on the same day, according to ESPN Stats & Info. The only other time it happened was on Sept. 15, 2000, when the AL West did so, but that division only consisted of four teams at the time.

Despite the record offensive output, the AL Central went just 3-2 on Tuesday.

The Cleveland Guardians beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 10-1, while the Minnesota Twins beat the Seattle Mariners 10-3. The Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals went head-to-head, with the Royals coming out on top 11-10. The Chicago White Sox, meanwhile, lost to the New York Mets 11-10.

Across the league, there were 12 teams that scored double-digit runs on Tuesday. That was one team away from the all-time record, which dates back to July 4, 1894.

All five AL Central teams play again Wednesday, continuing their series from the day before.

The Twins now have a 1.5-game lead over the Guardians for first place, and are the only team in the division over .500 at 49-47. The Tigers are in third, the White Sox are in fourth and the Royals are in last, owning the second-worst record in all of baseball.
